State Resources

Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) - Ohio Chapter
CSD is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing broad-based services, ensuring public accessibility and increasing public awareness of issues affecting deaf and hard of hearing individuals. This organization helps deaf and hard of hearing mental health consumers through education, advocacy and support. Ohio's local chapter assists in the education of the community about deafness and the needs of the deaf community and also provides needed educational services to consumers on a broad range of subjects that directly impact their recovery.

Consumer and Family Partnership Team
The Ohio Department of Mental Health’s Consumer and Family Partnership Team (CFPT) was designed to increase and strengthen consumer and family representation on ODMH committees and workgroups.

Depression Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) - Ohio
DBSA chapters offer more than 1,000 peer-run support groups. The selection of services differs by chapter, depending upon the needs of each chapter's participants. Most support groups are run by volunteers and provide self-help through facilitated meetings. The toll-free number for DBSA-Ohio is (866) 854-9154.

National Alliance on Mental Illness-Ohio Chapter
NAMI provides education, advocacy and support for people with mental illnesses and their families.

Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence (MACC)
The mission MACC is to enhance the quality of care in Ohio's behavioral health system and to incorporate cultural competence into systems and organizations that provide care to Ohio's most vulnerable and at-risk populations. It is MACC's vision that all people in Ohio's behavioral health system, as well as other care systems, experience and practice cultural competence that leads to optimal outcomes, providing a model for change.

Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities
This statewide organization represent the interests of all of Ohio's county alcohol, drug addiction and mental health boards at the state level.

Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies (OACCA)
OACCA is a statewide association of agencies that provide a wide array of services to children and families across Ohio, including foster care and mental health services.

Ohio Community Support Planning Council (OCSPC)

This private, nonprofit corporation is a trade association representing provider organizations throughout Ohio that offer behavioral health care services to their communities.

Ohio Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health
The Ohio Federation for Children's Mental Health is a statewide parent-run organization that focuses on the needs of children and youth with mental health issues and their families.

Ohio Legal Rights Service
The Ohio Legal Rights Service (OLRS) is an independent state agency that protects and advocates, in partnership with people with disabilities, for their human, civil and legal rights.

Depression Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)

NIMH is one of 27 components of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is the Federal government's principal biomedical and behavioral research agency. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Its mission is to reduce the burden of mental illness and behavioral disorders through research on mind, brain and behavior.

OhioMHAS Announces Community Innovations Initiative

The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services announced it will invest $1.5 million next year in projects that help link non-violent offenders with community-based behavioral healthcare services. The investments into the 12 collaborative projects in 24 counties is part of the Department's new Community Innovations Initiative, which kicked-off last week at the University of Findlay. The funding was acquired through savings resulting from the consolidation of state-funded agencies for mental health and addiction services. ....More

Suicide Risk Management

There are over 38,000 completed suicides in the United States per year. It is the 10th overall leading cause of death and the 3rd cause of death for individuals aged 15-24. Even Moderate Drinking in Pregnancy Can Affect a Child's IQ

Relatively small levels of exposure to alcohol while in the womb can influence a child's IQ, according to a new study led by researchers from the universities of Bristol and Oxford using data from over 4,000 mothers and their children in the Children of the 90s study (ALSPAC) and published November 14 in PLOS ONE. , click here.
